Svchost Exe What Is It – Identify Svchost Groups

    January 26th, 2010 by admin

Svchost.exe, what is it? Is it a virus? Why does it appear several times on different processes? The svchost.exe file can be accessed by several applications at an instance. It appears as svchost groups, and can be found in the registry under; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Svchost.

Every value or code under this directory is a separate group. To see the services running in Svchost, click on Start (on your Desktop Taskbar) then click on Run. Type CMD to open the DOS command prompt. In the blinking cursor, type Tasklist/SVC and press enter on your keyboard. The Tasklist command displays the active processes while the /SVC shows the services running with SVChost.exe
