Keep the work site clean
July 28th, 2010 by admin
I worked construction with a friends small business about a decade ago. I learned the hard way that you must keep the work site free of unnecessary debris. We were working on a house where the family had to move out while we did the work. The site was littered with moving containers. Large and small moving containers were scattered throughout the property and the building. It is a fact that if you want to drywall ahouse you have to remove obstructions from the room. In this case it was the left over moving containers. Now moving containers are not necessarily the only obstructions but in this case moving containers were the major source of frustration among my boss and my co workers. It got to the point where at least one person per day was tripping over or bumping into one or more moving containers during the course of their work.
I was nailing together a header for a window using a nail gun and one of my mates walking in a hurry dislodged one of the moving containers from its perch on top of a brick wall. The thing came crashing down and once it stopped moving containers were everywhere. now, I’m not upset that the family had to use moving containers to get themselves ready for departure. Nor do I have a problem with moving containers in general. Moving containers are a great way to get your stuff ready for a move. However at a work site, obstructions like moving containers should be left aside where they will not interfere with the work. In addition it is possible that while dodging the obstructions one of your moving containers could be damaged, thus damaging the contents. Really, everybody would be much happier if there was no need to dodge obstructions while trying to renovate a house.
